3 Pillars To Create A Connected Workplace Culture
Do you want to build a more connected team who get along better, are more productive and take your business to new heights?I’ve found that by creating connected experiences is the way to achieve this.Research says that 86% of employees felt they didn’t have enough play opportunities and fun events to spark connection. There was one time in a previous company when I realised how important play was. I was working at a medium-sized consulting firm and once a year the company took a group to the Falls Creek (a snow trip). There were 1000 employees and we were very siloed. But that experience was the most memorable of my working life. We all got to do a playful activity together and bonded over how bad we were and how much fun it was at being outdoors, in nature, giving a sport a go. Does that sound familiar to you? I encourage you to incorporate play in your team’s calendar.I worked at another HR services firm that had hands down the most engaged team. It was ironic because we were all on different client sites. But I vividly remember having 5-6 good friends out of there because we took time out of our busy week, every Friday night, and talked about anything but work. We got to learn about each other as humans.
Has this happened to you too? Give opportunities for your team to learn about their peers at a deeper, more meaningful level, through experiences.Lastly there was a time where I had a manager called Tass. And I remember how she was able to take a high-pressure environment and make me feel lighter from a mental / stress perspective. Tass and I would have impromptu catch-ups where she would lead by asking about what was going on in my life and then get it back into work. As such, by going deeper - and not having superficial small talk - I felt my mental health remained strong for all those years I worked with her.Raise your hand if that resonates with you too - you had a manager like that? Who could strengthen your overall health and wellbeing by going deeper with you.I want to leave you with the 3 key pillars of a connected team.
